Membership - Membership FAQ

We are excited that you are considering joining us! In an effort to help you decide if The Ghosts of Ohio organization is right for you, we have included the answers to some frequently asked questions below. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact us.

Here are some frequently asked questions about the Application:

Who can apply for membership?
Everyone over the age of 18 is welcome to apply for membership. However, as with all organizations, not everyone who applies is accepted. Our organization operates within a rather rigid flow chart. As such, there are times when we only have certain positions available.

How much does it cost to join?
At present time, there is no cost to apply to or join The Ghosts of Ohio.

What are you looking for in a potential member?
Simply put, we are looking for individuals who are willing to take an active role within the organization. Unlike many other ghost groups which focus mainly on investigations, The Ghosts of Ohio is involved with a lot of community outreach programs, including roadside cleanups, cemetery maintenance, and public presentations. We are looking for individuals who would be interested in taking part in these types of activities.

Also, from time to time, the need will arise for an individual who has experience in a certain area (video, audio, etc.). In those cases, we will post information related to the specific position on our site.

Why is the application so long?
The main purpose of the application is to get to know you better. It is also designed to determine your strengths and where you would best fit into the organization as a whole.

Does it matter that I don't live in Columbus?
No. While The Ghosts of Ohio is headquartered in Columbus, we currently have members throughout Ohio, as well as in neighboring states. Upon acceptance into The Ghosts of Ohio, you will report to the division of our organization that is closet or most convenient to you.

What will my responsibilities within the group be?
That really depends on what you are interested in. While conducting investigations is the position most people are interested in, we have several divisions within the group, including Evidence Analysis, Historical Research, Witness Interviewing, and Community Outreach.

Is it OK that I don't have any ghost equipment?
Yes. Other than the aforementioned open mind, you are not required to have any of your own equipment. And while you are certainly welcome to utilize any equipment you may own, you will not be required to own or purchase anything. All equipment is provided by The Ghosts of Ohio.

Do you care that I don't have any experience looking for ghosts?
Not really. Although the field of paranormal research has been around for many years, there are still very few definite answers. In short, there is still much to be learned. That being said, we ask only that you have a serious desire to learn more about the field of paranormal research.

How much money will I make?
The Ghosts of Ohio is a not-for-profit organization and all work within the organization is strictly on a volunteer basis.

I don't want to join right now, but can I still help you look for ghosts?
Unfortunately, no. Due to privacy issues, The Ghosts of Ohio are unable to extend investigation invitations to anyone not affiliated with our organization.
